"Mom Makes Jewelry"

This week is a special week.
Flora is the featured child in her class.

And I, her mom, received an invitation that felt a little like a secret mission:
to come and talk about my work.

And then I wondered, almost in a whisper:
How do you tell a grown-up adventure
to a room full of six-year-olds?

My daughter said:
“My mom has a wonderful job. She makes jewelry.”

And it’s true.

Mom makes jewelry.
But she doesn’t make it alone.

Mom works with a team of very talented friends who live far away, on the other side of the ocean, in India. There, artisans craft the jewelry with their hands, like shaping a treasure little by little.

Mom began this adventure when she traveled to India and met these incredible partners. Together, they imagine collections, a bit like creating a new story every year.

Every year, a huge chest filled with treasures arrives in Canada.
And that’s when… the magic begins.

Because Mom’s shop is very special.
It doesn’t exist on a street.
It doesn’t have a door you can push open.

It exists on the Internet.

People can see the jewelry on their screens and choose the one they love. It’s a bit like an invisible shop… but very real.

And you know what?
More than 30,000 people have already chosen a piece of Mom’s jewelry.

Because these pieces are made with so much love, so much talent… and so much heart.

"When you want to live great adventures, you have to make great efforts."

Mom loves her work because she gets to do many different things.

The real word for what Mom does is entrepreneur.

Being an entrepreneur means you have an idea…
a dream…
and you decide to build it yourself.

It’s like Mom planted a tiny seed,
and every day she waters it so it can grow into something big.

A day in Mom’s work is never the same.

Some days, my head is full of ideas.
It bubbles!
So I write them down so I don’t forget them.

Other days, I plan.
I think.
I make lists.

There are also days I like less…
Like when I have to do math and pay money to the government.
That’s part of the responsibility.

But there are days I truly love.
Like when I create photoshoots with my best friend.

And there are days I love even more…
When I travel very far to India to meet the people I create jewelry with.
And I’m going again soon.
And I can’t wait.

Being an entrepreneur sometimes means having a mind overflowing with ideas…
And sometimes having a very tired brain.

It’s a lot of joy.
And a lot of responsibility.

But when you want to live great adventures,
you have to make great efforts.

And Mom believes it’s worth it.

"I create jewelry that reminds people they already have power inside them."

And there is one last very important thing about Mom’s work.

What I love most about my jewelry…
is that I believe it is magical.

But not the magic from movies.

Have you ever seen stories where a hero wears a crown that gives them powers?
Or a magic wand?
Or a cape that lets them fly?
Or a lamp that grants wishes?
Or a ring that gives superpowers?

When I say my jewelry is magical,
I’m not talking about that kind of magic.

There are different kinds of magic.

The magic of Santa Claus, Peter Pan, or the Tooth Fairy,
is a special kind of storybook magic.

I don’t have that kind of power.

But I believe in another kind of magic.

Have you ever felt a little scared…
and gone to get your stuffed animal or your blanket to feel safe?

Have you ever made a wish on your birthday
before blowing out your candles?

When we do that…
it’s already a little bit magical.

Because we close our eyes.
We think very hard about something we want in our hearts.

Maybe more courage.
Maybe less fear.
Maybe to be a good friend.

And when we say that wish…
it becomes important.

When I create jewelry,
I place wishes inside it.

And I invite the people who wear it
to choose a wish for themselves.

The jewelry becomes like a small treasure chest
that carries that wish close to the heart.

So I don’t just make jewelry.

I create jewelry that reminds people
they already have power inside them.

And when they forget,
they can hold their pendant in their hands…
and remember.
